I absolutely understand this, as a European. The temperatures have just changed drastically. Growing up we barely ever needed AC, and im from southeast, it would get hot but not unmanageable, but now its absolutely unbearable! Having said that, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a hotel that doesnt have AC. When it comes to apartments, you need to remember that A LOT of building across various European countries and cities are veeery old, historical buildings and for the most part thats the biggest reason we still dont have AC’s as much, you’re simply not allowed to put them on the old buildings, you can’t do anything that changes the outside look. I live in Austria and in my city most buildings are old, austro-hungarian. But also, they have very thick walls and actually are quite good at not getting super hot 😊

I refuse! I’m too spoiled. I won’t rent a place nor sleep in a hotel without AC. Went down to the beach last week and they said AC was out. Yeah cancel my reservation and booked a new hotel. I’m a perimenopausal women with a blood disorder where summer is the worse for me so need my AC

I just did 5 nights in France without AC (during the crazy hot week) and got the worst sleep scores of my life. I don't know why they choose to suffer 😫

My husband and I are incredibly fortunate to have an air conditioning unit in our flat. I finally convinced him to start using it towards the end of last month, and the difference has been remarkable. We can now sleep better at night. When we didn’t use the air conditioning and only relied on fans, our flat felt like a sauna, and we were having even more difficulty sleeping. I’m preparing to go to France and I’ll be staying with family. Unfortunately, they don’t have air conditioning or fans; they simply open up their windows. I don’t know how I’ll survive the heat. 🥵

We have a/c in Madrid but my partner doesn’t like to use it often as the electricity is expensive. I literally put ice packs in my pockets sometimes to survive lol

A/C in Spain is normal, if not (yet) universal. Switzerland and Northern Europe (until this year) might only “need” A/C a few days a year (think Northern Maine, which is further South). This year is just freakishly hot for Northern Europe.

I 100% absolutely agree! I just got back from two weeks in Italy and some friends from Alicante joined us for part of the trip. I was so damn hot ALWAYS and the Spanish guy was freezing.

Funny! Friends in Paris had a tiny AC that you have to connect with a hose to a window for exhaust, they finally got a hookup worked out and now ALL of their French friends keep stopping by 😆

There are no portable ac units to buy in the whole of Europe and it has never been this hot. Supply and demand are just not matching up. We're not coping but there is nothing we can do about it this quickly. Come back in 5 years and it will be different. It is getting a little tiring to hear that this is our choice when it truly isn't.
