Pretty sure Thomas Jefferson didn’t consider slaves as people. Or women. When he wrote “all men” he meant “all white men” because that was the default in society. Women and black peoples were property. Not “men”.

I have never thought about it this way… but I have acknowledged the progress we have made as a society. I have 2nd generation biracial children. Bi-racial marriage was not even legal until the 1970s. My children’s father was the first generation that was noted to be black and white and have it be legal.
