The reflex is normal as he's learning to move the move to the back. The natural reflex is to push out to then get the tongue to move food backwards X

For my daughter I would preload the spoon and hand it to her and she liked it better too! I was all worried because she didn’t care much for purées and really wasnt interested in food much. She turned one and just naturally became so much more interested! So try not to worry! 💗

You’re doing great job! He just needs to be trying things at this age. Giving him the spoon is a GREAT practice, it’s so helpful for him building his motor skills. The whole goal: just getting him to try new textures right now. You’re both doing such a good job in a new learning phase!!

I shoved in behind the tongue push, put alittle in and let him push it out and then right as he goes to close his mouth sneak it in because he'll swallow right after that push. How I did it with my kiddos, thankfully this stage doesnt last long.

Have you thought about baby led weaning? So giving him stuff to try rather than feeding? My daughter much prefers shovelling it in her own face 😂

It’s trial and error he’s lovely. I hate weetabix and no manual comes with a baby it’s hard. Fromage frais and yoghurts. They love it xx god bless

my son does this when his weetabix are too thick i have to make them with more milk and he eats every last drop and hes 10 month for reference

I used a subo bottle to start introducing food to my daughter. It's sort of the shape of a bottle, and kind of like a refillable baby food pouch, except it's way easier to get food out of. Every part can be pulled apart and washed as well. We still use it now she is older for smoothies, yoghurt, custard etc
