why travel back to chiang mai to fly to phuket? you can fly from chian rai. you also missed khao sok - floating bungalow. fly from chiang rai to surat thani or phuket and taxi to khao sok

From Phuket, take the ferry to Koh Lanta, then continue by ferry to Phi Phi before catching a speedboat to Krabi. This route reduces your overall travel time to Surat Thani because, if you travel directly from Koh Lanta, the first bus heads back to Krabi before continuing north. That means you’re effectively retracing part of your journey, whereas stopping at Phi Phi and taking the speedboat to Krabi avoids that unnecessary backtracking.
