Though not legally recognized as a direct victim, Herron has become a vocal opponent of Menzies’ execution and has joined activist groups campaigning against the death penalty. She argues that responding to violence with more violence does not deliver justice, and she questions the ethics of executing someone who may be suffering from cognitive decline.
