@Fredagainagain has released a very, very long YouTube video. The 108-hour “USB002 EVERY SHOW” is a continuous mix of all his DJ sets between Oct. 3 and Feb. 27. “Im told this is the longest video on YouTube ever?” Fred writes. But is it? There’s a 2020 video that runs over eight days, but it’s just a silent countdown — not a creative enterprise like Fred’s. Stereogum deems it ineligible. According to Guinness World Records, the longest YouTube livestream lasted for 38 days. But when streams get archived, YouTube caps them at 12 hours. Fred wins. In 2020, Twenty One Pilots released a “never ending” music video for “Level Of Concern.” Guinness deemed it the “longest music video” ever. It played for 178 days, but it was made up of visuals submitted by fans in real time on the band’s website, with the song on a loop. It was a temporary livestream, so Fred again.. wins again. There are whispered legends about YouTube videos that display years-long lengths, but those are due to corrupted metadata causing the time display to default to the largest integer. They don’t actually play that long. They don’t count. Finally, in 2011, Jonathan Harchick uploaded “The Longest Video On YouTube: 596.5 Hours.” (It has its own IMDb page.) It was a low-res slideshow, occasionally interrupted by him taking a sip of water — part of the “Jon Drinks Water” series, which sounds riveting. Sometimes it was blank or repeated visuals. In that era, YouTube capped uploads by file size, so users could exploit that to post very long low-res videos. That channel was deactivated, so “The Longest Video On YouTube” is no longer on YouTube. (You can find it on the Wayback Machine, but it won’t play.) Technically, Jonathan Harchick probably beats Fred again.. But Fred’s video doesn’t repeat content, so it deserves special recognition, which Stereogum World Records will give him if Guinness doesn’t. Check out “USB002 EVERY SHOW” and come back here in four and a half days to tell us what you think. #Fredagain #YouTube
