Do not. I REPEAT. DO NOT USE THE MINI DVR!!!! ESPECIALLY WITH THE DCR SERIES!!! You will lose quality. If your camcorder uses MiniDV, HDV, Digital8, or MicroMV you might as well just shoot to the tapes. Let’s say if your camcorder’s tape mechanism is broken, then buy a Sony HVR-MRC1 with the ilink cradle, or the Sony HVR-DR60 or any FireWire recording device. FireWire recording devices provide 1:1 quality which the mini dvr, powerplay, easycap do not.
