I work at a “no-kill” shelter, and I stand up for open intake shelters ever chance I get. I tell people that we have the luxury of being a “no-kill” shelter because there are open intake shelters out there doing the hard work that no one else wants to do. We owe them our deepest respect. No one is going to trash talk an open intake shelter in front of me.

The shelter I volunteered at never uses the term “no kill” because even though 97%+ of the outcomes of the shelter are positive, sometimes an intake does not end well for various reasons. They technically could use the term, but instead they are incredibly transparent about why they don’t.

I actually do think we need a documentary like this. "no kill" gets used to justify warehousing dogs for years in kennels while they slowly go insane living in a 6x6 box day in/day out.

100% correct. I volunteer at an open intake shelter, that means we take any animal that comes through our doors!! That term is harmful.

Correct! Aggressive dogs should not be adopted out. Emaciated mommy dogs who come in pregnant need an abortion. I have a puppy from this scenario and they said the high levels of cortisol they had in utero is the reason she has anxiety and aggression!
