@sofi: @michael_phelp made millions and won more golds than any Olympian in history. But it wasn’t because he was chasing money. He was chasing something far more important. Follow for more Richer Lives.
Yeah, people work harder. It’s a lot of physical talent.

You outworked everyone… and you were born with the physical gifts that allowed you to be great.

I tried to watch every race in the Olympics in which he was competing ; absolutely the greatest swimmer of all time. It was so beautiful to watch him!

so what? I would rather be better than most, ie, top 10% rank. But the best probably is unnecessary. remember those athletes who die frequently of heart attacks? everything in moderation is much better!

Champions love to baselessly state they worked harder than their opponents.

Someone calling themselves the hardest worker in the room should not bother you as much as it’s bothering folks.

Yea that is probably true, but the genetic lottery also plays a huge role here. Successful people hate to admit that they got lucky but literally every single successful person got lucky. Luck and hard work are not mutually exclusive and you need both to succeed.

Guarantee someone worked harder, but wasn't as privileged and didn't have his genetic advantages.

All things had to line up. he was in top 0.1% of people with the best genetics and talent for swimming, and also in 0.1% of hardest workers, and also probably had a lot of luck (not necessarily in races, but in the fact that he was put in that situation- his parents put him into swimming at young age and were able to financially support him and he probably had a good coach). And thats how you get once in a lifetime champion.

I’ve always said Michael Jordan (or whoever) wouldn’t be the GOAT unless he worked his ass off. Yes of course he had the natural abilities but that only gets you so far. The best in the game is the first to the gym last to leave.

No, this is facts. The people in the comments must not be swimmers. He outworked everyone. And for how long he was able to do it? That’s the impressive part. He was considered to be old in competition years when he retired. Swimming requires an incredibly high level of discipline and dedication to be great and an even higher level of work ethic to be the best. And he has the accolades to back that up.

What people don’t understand is that you have to have this mindset to be a champion regardless of if it’s true or not.
