Getting a second job used to be for saving for big expenses like school, weddings, houses, new babies, expensive things of that nature. Now, getting a second job is a requirement for independence

My neice who is the tail end of Gen Z, says "We have nothing to look forward to. We will never own a home. We can't afford an education, even if we want one, which most of us don't because we see how pointless that has been. We can't afford food, a car, Healthcare or even basic hygiene care. Most of the people my age, give up, why make yourself better when there is NOTHING to be better for." And my heart breaks, because this is what we have left them, because we didn't do better. 🥺

I just graduated with a bachelors degree in biochemistry. Chemist positions are currently starting at $16.50/hr. I made $16.25/hr as a gas station cashier last summer.

gen z here. i worked 40 hrs a week in school was up at 4 am and went to bed at midnight between classes/school, and i lost 35 lbs cause i couldn't afford food after rent. thanks for talking about this

and nobody is hiring. ive applied to easily 50 places in the past month and ive only been accepted for 4 interviews, i dont have a car so I walk to every location I apply to and I go see the manager to see if they will hire me. after all that, I still dont have a job, the interviews did not ever call me back and when I visit the store they just tell me they have another interview they need to do and they will let me know after that one... they didnt

In 2013 in ladies shoes at Bloomingdale’s I was making $1000 bucks a week as a top seller. No one is making that now.

Im getting 15/h to teach in PA.. in 2026…. And min wage is 7.25$ per hour so they say I have a good job. My job requires a masters 😭😭

The sad thing is 30+yrs ago, I worked retail for $3.50/hr. I had my own apt, paid all my bills & partied 3-4 nights a week. Today, as a salaried employee working in marketing/media, I run out of money every month. Can barely pay my rent & bills, can't put money towards retirement, can't take vacations...can't even order take-out.

Federal minimum wage is $7.25. You can work an entire day to make a whopping $58 (before taxes)

In 1995, I was 21 and selling furniture for straight commission. I didn’t have a degree. I was making 4% on everything I sold. I made $45-50k a year. My daughter just graduated from a top university and was working at a PR agency making $42k!!!

It's greedy companies. they sit there and say they can't afford to increase the wages of their workers , but then turn around and claim record breaking profits every year
