While the younger son was reckless with his money, the father was completely reckless and extravagant with his grace.

That interpretation is wrong. This story reflects Orthodox Christian teaching. The father represents God, and the message is that heaven rejoices when a sinner repents and returns to God. However, this does not mean that the faithful son was less loved. The father told the elder son, “You are always with me, and everything I have is yours.” Jesus Christ gives the same message in the parable of the lost sheep, a shepherd leaves the 99 to find the one that is lost and rejoices when he finds it.
