This one is Bernini's The Rape of Proserpina, carved from a single block of marble when he was just 23 years old. According to Greek mythology, Hades abducted Proserpina and took her to the Underworld. Her mother, Ceres, goddess of agriculture, was devastated, causing the earth to wither. A compromise was reached: Proserpina would spend six months in the Underworld and six months on Earth.
