Another thing is that before the academies, kids in Europe and the rest of the world just play football. You have a ball, you set up some rocks and a backpack or whatever to serve as goals, and you just play. You grow up with it as a fun thing to do with your friends long before it becomes an organized activity with actual teams and coaches. And I think that makes a huge difference.

In Belgium kids start playing in regional clubs at the age of 4-5, then progress in that club till 8-9 and the better players get scouted by higher division clubs to progress to the u17. Then there is another selection to the A team. In Belgium the are over 3500 official football clubs. It’s the number 1 sport here. In Europe we breathe football.

I think the concept of “doing it for the love of the game” is really hard to grasp in the capitalist machine that is the US. Especially when talking about how young kids get into football and develop, etc

Almost all of the American game reviews ive watched are about the players athleticism, passion, attitude and mindset. Nobody talked about strategy, tactics and technical skill which are the visible for everyone else reasons why they lost.
