Few would recognize them as horocruxes and their historical significance makes them unlikely to be destroyed. So the reason makes sense. It certainly has its flaws and also prideful, but there’s logic behind that.

I think it needs to mean something cause its one of the darkest magic you can use so using a piece of your soul cant go into a grain of sand i think you need to put into something that is linked to you or popular like Harry the prophecy or the locket he from that house

It's called plot induced stupidity. If Voldemort was written to be as intelligent as the story tells us he is, he would be unbeatable. Make the horcruxes with 7 knuts and magic them into space. There, 7 immortality anchors completely beyond anyone's reach forever.

One of Tom’s biggest mistakes was his pride. He literally never thought anyone would find out he made “6” horcruxes. I truly believe he thought he was cleverer than all….dumbledore was his one concern. He should have listened to that worry.

mistake? or arrogance? Tom was arrogant. from a young age he could do things no one else could. he got good grades, he was smart, he thought a lot of himself. he named himself a lord. he didn't think anyone could defeat him. arrogance lost him the war and his soul

Flip side. He himself also had to be able to locate said items in the case of what happened. To redeem and gain back his soul in the case of near death. So he couldn’t do something too mundane cuz he would never find his soul again.

Well why wouldn't you. You wouldn't put ur soul into something no one cared about because they wouldn't think twice about breaking it. Who would seriously consider breaking items that costs fortunes or hold really significant value whether in cost, emotion, or ethics
