@blk.table.talk: Jennifer Lewis, the actress and activist known for decades of outspoken advocacy for Black lives, posted this response to the death of Nolan Xavier Wells, an 18 year old football player from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Nolan traveled to Horn Island, a remote barrier island off the Mississippi coast only accessible by private boat, with a group of friends on July 4th 2026 to celebrate the holiday. At around 3pm he was last seen on the island. His friends left on a boat. Nolan was not on it. His mother reported him missing that night. A two day search involving the US Coast Guard, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, the National Park Service, and the United Cajun Navy followed. On July 6th a park ranger found his body on the island. His cause of death has not been officially confirmed. Investigators have indicated they suspect drowning but an independent autopsy is being conducted. The family has retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump and is demanding a thorough and transparent investigation. One of the biggest unanswered questions is why the boat left the island without Wells after he was no longer with the group. His mother Christine Wonsley said Nolan was a special soul.
