sorry but this is a product of modern games handholding every little baby step you ever take before you are allowed to enjoy the game. morrowind had a wonderful questing system because you didnt have map markers, you needed to actually explore based on rumors. skyrim entirely killed that and now you dont actually have to think about whats going on if you dont want to pay attention. sucks that this is seen as a bad thing, nobody is forcing you to use the wiki, you could just explore lile youre meant to!

It’s ACTUALLY JUST a skill issue. Terraria gives you everything you need with plenty of help. Theirs even an in game beastiary that tells you what enemies drop what and where they spawn. Not that you’d be farming for any item because you wouldn’t know it exists unless you looked it up first.

Terraria is one of the least Wikipedia-esque games out there. The Guide tells you what all items you show him do and are for. It’s genuinely the gold standard of in-game info. What are you talking about

I genuinely don’t understand why people like terraria so much, I’ve tired playing once single player and two times separately with friends and the game is so god damn boring, nothing is interesting, the exploration is mid, the combat feels terrible and progression feels disconnected and uninteresting, maybe this is just a me issues but I can’t understand why people love Terraria so much also having to constantly talk to a npc just to figure out wth I’m meant to be doing is boring, tedious and just bad game design. If I want creativity I go play Minecraft, if I want good progression and combat I got play one of the souls game or something like dead cells etc. Terraria to me offers pretty much nothing that these games don’t already do well.

I agree and I have 70 hours in terraria. The game is great but it could have a better tutorial.

Imagine if Terraria had an in-game character who gave you tips and exact crafting uses for any material in the game. Would be game changing.

“The guide tells you what to do” literally no one has used that to beat the game and if you say you did you’re lying

people saying guide npc exist like they haven't used the wiki a single time in their playthrough. its factually way easier to wiki things instead of talking to the guide thats spouts random bs sometimes, doesnt even recommends what armor/weapons to use. while it is possible, wiki just makes it easier.

people disagreeing probably dumped a lot of time on terraria as a child and spent most of with a wiki open. she's not saying the game is bad in any way, but that the game itself doesn't guide you well, and kind of expects you to have its logic implanted into your brain.

terraria absolutely does give you a direction lol, a lot of the bosses spawn on their own, are mentioned by NPCs or it guides you through the chatbox. You could wipe my memory and I'd be able to play terraria no wiki/yt, Minecraft on the other hand...

While I agree almost entirely, I'll push back on Stardew a little, as most of that info can be found in lost books and notes and stuff. It will make the game take 100 times longer, so your point stands

First time I have to disagree with a take from you. I genuinely do love that, because it means there's enough information in the game for there to be an entire wiki worth of stuff to learn. It means I can figure out cool things on my own, discover spontaneous encounters with no clue how they happened, try random things and fail most of the time but get the huge payoff when something works. Not every game needs to teach you how to do everything in it. Terraria, for example, leaves you to learn how things work on your own. It doesn't need to teach me how to use an axe, or a pickaxe, or a sword, or a wand. I've played games before, I know what these things do. There are clues all over the world on how to proceed and find new bosses or progress the world. The fact that there's so much to know and it just throws you in the deep end is exactly why it's so beloved and one of the best games of all time

the guide doesn’t exist in some people’s eyes i guess, he’s a complete crafting guide once you discover a material, he tells you the next boss in progression and a small hint on how to progress and multiple of the mini bosses/bosses in general can be completely figured out through exploration in terraria. The only thing that I could see needing looking up is the holiday events but they aren’t necessary to beat the game
