You have to challenge them and support them through the completion of the challenge and ask them after how they feel and if they are as proud as you are of them. That is what builds the character that looks for challenges and has faith with the process of learning and not quitting.

I read before, instead of saying “I’m so proud of you…” you should say “you should be so proud of yourself” so they learn to find pride in themselves thru what they do vs doing stuff to try and get someone to notice and be proud of them.
