„The Shining“ is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the novel by Stephen King. He moves there with his wife Wendy and their young son Danny, hoping the quiet months will give him time to write and rebuild his strained family life. The hotel’s manager warns Jack about a previous caretaker who went mad and murdered his family, but Jack dismisses it. Danny, however, possesses a psychic ability known as “the shining,” which allows him to sense the hotel’s dark past and communicate telepathically with the hotel’s cook, Dick Hallorann. As heavy snow cuts the family off from the outside world, strange visions and disturbing events begin to unfold. He begins interacting with ghostly figures, including a mysterious bartender and the former caretaker, who encourage his growing resentment toward his family. His frustration over his writer’s block turns into rage, and he ultimately descends into violent insanity. In the film’s tense climax, Jack hunts Wendy and Danny through the hotel and into a frozen hedge maze. Wendy fights desperately to protect her son, while Danny uses his intelligence and psychic awareness to escape.
