@drtoddphillips: Christians often tell atheists, agnostics, ex-Christians, and people who are deconstructing, “You were warned,” or “When you stand before God, you’ll know.” But that assumes unbelief is a choice. I did not choose to stop believing in God. I was a Christian for most of my life, preached the gospel for more than 20 years, studied Scripture, defended Christianity, and built my life around it. Over time, I became unconvinced. That is different from rebellion. That is different from hating God. That is different from secretly knowing Christianity is true and refusing to submit. Belief does not work that way. You cannot force yourself to believe in Islam, Mormonism, Greek gods, Hindu gods, or Christianity just because someone warns you about judgment. You can choose to study, listen, stay open, and be honest. But you cannot choose to be convinced. You don’t have to be religious to have a good character, and the world needs everyone to be of good character. If you are a good person, live with honour, empathy, joy. You would naturally enter the light of god no matter whether or not you base your life around any religion.

Same. I was indoctrinated southern Baptist. Mom was the choir Director. I tour with a youth choir performing Christian musicals every summer. As an adult, I was on a worship team at a community Pent.church until my faith crumbled in my mid 40s. I’m 61
