@microbiometok: There are a lot of smooth talking creators gaining your trust and spreading misinformation. This occurs in all fields, but I’ve noticed it so much in science communication. Someone might always make these energized videos raving about the newest publication and how it’s going to change the future of medicine, but really are just connecting it to their personal interests and business. If someone is trying to sell you something, run. If they aren’t transparent about credentials or actively mislead you, run. If other experts are contradicting them in the comments, run. Social media is great at connecting us, but is also great for burying accurate information and promoting misinformation. #scicomm #misinformation #trusttheexperts
Everytime I see a person with a paper behind them and that “ad” disclosure at the bottom I die a little😬

It’s also the lists of “sources” in the video description, where they’re just a single name and year, and you go and find them - half the time they don’t exist and the other half they don’t remotely support the arguments being made. Clearly just copied and pasted from somewhere else

Finding the relevant experts is difficult but so important (I’ve been writing a series on it, a couple of posts up already). The negative impact of finding and trusting con-artists can be dangerous, even fatal…

That's why I enjoy Dr Alo, Dr Idz, Dr Michael, and various pharmd. Many Chiropractors are bad about this. Hope you help in fighting all this misinformation online. Social Media needs a way to recognize doctors in their fields as verified.
