and folks with kids- if your friends have shown up for all the things: your birthday, bridal shower, engagement party, wedding, baby shower, kids birthdays etc. you need to show up equally as much in their lives. EVEN WHEN THEY ASK YOU TO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS. you cannot have a village while only taking and not giving

The number of baby showers I’ve attended for friends with a smile on my face while knowing I had to swallow back tears as I was getting ready because I’ve been fighting infertility for 7 years.. but to have good friends, you have to be a good friend. Even when it’s hard.

We have normalized isolation and “protecting your peace” way too much. Everyone wants a village but they don’t want to be a villager and that includes showing up to things even when you don’t want to. Them people get upset when others don’t show up for them, and call them “fake” when in reality they never bothered to build a telón the first place
