Marriage isn’t always going to feel the way it did in the very beginning. The “spark” will not always be as bright and there will be seasons when it feels like all you can do is survive next to each other due to exhaustion, apathy, or big life changes. The first time we truly experienced “the roommate zone” in our marriage was after we had Georgia. Becoming new parents hit us like a bus and we were truly in survival mode that first year. We both missed each and felt frustrated that we weren’t connecting the way we used to. Slowly, we started to implement some of the little things that we had stopped doing over time like greeting each other at the door and we were surprised how quickly things started to change and how much closer we felt. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you try to think about how to get some of the connection back in your marriage after a time of feeling more distant but we’ve found that there is so much power in seeking out small touch points throughout the day. It’s in these little moments of connection that you and your spouse can recalibrate and remember that you aren’t living two paralell lives and instead come back to home base so you can both feel a sense of unity. Actions like greeting your spouse at the door, reaching over to rub their back, or simply giving them a loving smile across the room says “I see you and you matter to me”. It’s a momentary pause that can have major ripple affects in your marriage as a whole. In a world where it’s easy to let business convince us we don’ have time for each other, do your marriage a favor today and create space for a touch point with your spouse. 🤍 We have an exciting free marriage challenge coming up that you won’t want to miss so be sure to sign up for our email list!
