Whilst the intentions of the girl’s family is positive and the guys reasons are valid, he should have communicated his issues with the girlfriend first before even thinking of ghosting them. This is not a big issue. Some people tend to have avoidant traits and get overwhelmed when they experience love they aren’t used to. Communication is key. They can sort this out easily. Ghosting was not the best approach.

The mother is just being happy for her daughter and I don’t think there’s something more to that but Kobby too could’ve communicated something to his girlfriend to talk to her mom. Ghosting the girlfriend was way too off for this
