I tell colleagues all the time the easiest way to increase your salary in social work is literally to job hop every 2-3 years and negotiate every new job walking in the door. I’ve declined so many jobs over the years because they weren’t paying my worth and never feel bad about it. We advocate for clients with no issue so why don’t we do the same for ourselves?! Pleaseeeee 🥴😌

Love the transparency! It’s certainly helpful as a recent MSW grad with an LSW. I’ve been feeling a little discouraged with the lack of opportunities in my area and the extremely chaotic environments I keep running into. I feel a move with make all the difference! Heavy on knowing our worth and there is always better to come 🫶🏾

Graduated with my bachelor’s in psych and criminal justice in 2024. While i school i worked as a paraeducator at a school for kids with disabilities I made like $13 i think. After I graduated I worked as an RBT making $22 an hour I worked in clinic though. I left that job after like 9 months. My next job was in Feb 2025 at a doctors office as a patient advocate made 51,000 mind you still school for my MSW at this point. I currently work at a group home making less than that due to having to quit my job because of field work (internship). I graduate in Nov and plan on taking my test before graduating and plan on making atleast $72,000 once I graduate this is the least I would accept!

Had to start at 17 hr my first social worker job and 20 years later making 43 which is a living wage and enough to max out my retirement accounts to hit my FIRE number by 55 as medical social worker in hospital. Congrats at six figures, I will be at end of my career by the time I get there but retirement is not an age but a number. Grateful I found Choose FI community which inspired me to save as so many people who do not even make six figures still retire millionaires.
