@ny1: After NY1's Errol Louis asked Mayor Zohran Mamdani if the near-collapse of a Midtown building was a cautionary sign about the process of office to residential conversions, Mamdani said he doesn't think streamlining and safety are in tension. "What we want to make sure is that a regulation that doesn't have any reason for existing is not one that we continue, but regulations that create safety, those are ones that are critically important. I think that office to residential conversions are, and will continue to be, an important part of our response to the housing crisis," Mamdani said during the first installment of "Out of Office with the Mayor," a new NY1 exclusive series interviewing the mayor in each borough.
