i think a lot of that comes from people not having enough self-restraint in writing their characters. they’ll make them distinct on the surface level, but have them make all the same decisions they, the author, would make (or would want), instead of actually reflecting the characters.

Ahh this should be a longer video analysis or something for maybe YouTube because it’s so much deeper than that too. For example the guy pacing the room and screaming then saying “I’m fine” isn’t necessarily a bad written event if it correlates which a bunch of behavior patterns in that character and presents as a flaw and something the character either develops from or a trait that other characters have to deal with that affect their development.
