my manager once said “titles arent always important” mind you she was white. Management (usually white) finds pleasure in withholding titles and associated pay raises because they can and love to abuse power and control. They keep moving the goal post and dont care how obvious it is 😂 i hate em. I love how try to patronize you every time when seeking that title as if they didnt shoot down countless people and ask for titles and raises themselves. But when a minority does it - how dare they!!! and i will die on this hill

Another thing is one title at one company can be something different at another company in my field. Sometimes the titles aren’t industry standard. I’ve used my resume to align my job titles with the roles I am applying for or what’s common at that company in my field. I feel like it helps with ats bots.

My manager had the audacity to tell me that title don’t matter. … they do! They also determine my pay band and they also allow for better authority.

I have been fighting for 3 years for just a simple bump from normal to senior. when I started there were 3 people on the team with senior titles. 2 of them have left, yet no one has been promoted to fill those senior roles. funny thing, the job descriptions aren't any different, it's just a literal title bump based on experience (I think?)

This happened to me at a company. At one point HR realized I was paid as much as a Director and made more money than my manager bc they kept raising my pay but noty level. They tried to freeze my pay rather than promote me.

WRONG. They would say no and say your original title! Especially HR. You think they will support your growth after leaving? WRONG. show your scope of work in description to speak for itself, and add the right job title under level/scope
