I personally love how you don't indicate when you switch but it's also so obvious

maybe in america it is considered normal that therapists act like she does in the first part of the video, but in my country it’s absolutely NOT. i’ve been to three psychologists and had consultations with two psychiatrists (+ multiple psych residents) and NONE OF THEM even remotely acted or spoke like this. it all seems very unprofessional

I’m sorry but I will have my coffee and my water going since my mouth gets so dried and more when I’m talking for hours non stop. I think it’s just human, I also extend that to my clients, if they want water or coffee I have available for them

I love this because I feel like so many people have this assumption that therapists should speak and sound a certain way, but we can also be therapeutic with normal/digestible language

As someone who has no knowledge in this area it would be nice if you put when you switch from profesional to not progresiones

As a therapist, I don’t think your examples are great in these videos. Ok not ‘unethical’ per se but not a great representation of how a therapist should behave. The therapeutic relationship is part of the treatment, so boundaries help create a space that stays focused on the client rather than becoming a mutual relationship. Having a coffee in session or briefly commenting on a client’s top isn’t inherently problematic and may help build rapport… concern is over time these interactions feel more like what friends do/chat about, subtly changing how the client experiences the relationship even if brief in the session. Eg coffee rather than water (because yes we do need to be hydrated), the “that’s the dumbest thing why is he saying that” makes it more like - “we’re hanging out”…The client may begin to see it more like a friendship - leading to “I don’t want to disappoint them” harder to challenge them, or they stay in therapy far longer they need to because the ending becomes harder.

I had to take co-parenting therapy. The therapist used to shame on me, saying that why I did this or that during the divorce, and other times. I had so many things that I wanted to tell her, but I just had to play “good” and go with her vibe. I was like: you’re totally right! I get it now! (My ex cheated on me with my “friend”) last time I told her: maybe my ex and my friend were meant to be together and I was the link for their bright future. After that she was like: Ana, you are awesome! My ex “apologize” to me and I didn’t accept the apology, she told me I was wrong, that I should accept the apologies, that blah blah blah
