Those are very important points, but I always tell patients as a psychiatric nurse practitioner that it’s all a balance of three things, what you’re interested in, what you’re good at and what you can make a living in. At the end of the day you don’t want to do something that you hate, even if it does pay well.

Great advice! I chose an accounting degree because it was practical. Did I initially have a passion for it? No. But a decade into my career I’ve actually gotten into a niche that I’m passionate about plus it pays the bills nicely.

You know I agree to this at the same time I think that whatever you decide to do, you should be excited about so I do tell my students follow your passion, but I also tell them about my Cuban mom who said don’t be stupid either be smart along the path so I went into the arts and education

This is so true and the same advice we gave all 3 of our children! Too many parents want their children to follow their “ passions” which many times lead to ridiculous degrees that do not result in a job.
