A New Mexico woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting she killed her husband and spent months trying to hide what happened. Prosecutors said Deana Thetford shot her husband, Craig Thetford, during an argument inside their Cloudcroft home in early 2025. After his death, investigators say she concealed his body in the carport, wrapped the remains in plastic and a rug, and repeatedly gave family members and law enforcement conflicting stories about where he had gone. According to prosecutors, Craig’s family reported him missing after months without hearing from him. Investigators eventually uncovered evidence that Deana had allegedly impersonated her husband through text messages and social media messages while also forging documents in an effort to make it appear he was still alive.
