@truenorthawakening: Replying to @Ogoun1010 multiple matches=no matches. The sequences match those found in Japan, Western Europe, the Americas, and more. #populationgenetics #mtdna #indigenousamerican
I got 17 different origins I don't feel connected to any of them

So my haplogroup happens to be L1b1 and my matches are in multiple regions: Nigeria, Benin, Mali, etc Does that mean my lineages are not in those regions?

Also the study's central conclusion is frequently misunderstood. The authors found that many African American mtDNA sequences matched multiple African ethnic groups because the same maternal lineages are shared across numerous populations throughout sub-Saharan Africa. This reflects thousands of years of migration, population mixing, and shared ancestry among African peoples—not an absence of African ancestry.

LISTEN: There needs to be an industry standard when determining a Haplogroup match. This includes having an upper limit of how many mutations that the determiner is ignoring. A haplogroup match should be declared nonexistent if a certain number of mutations that are igrnored. The more mutations, then the likelihood of a haplogroup match should be near zero regardless of how many individual matches exist.

Funny how you left out the author's stated "Numerous studies have demonstrated that human mtDNA haplotypes can be used with confidence to identify the continent where the haplotype originated."
