@ltcdiaries: Do leaders make better decisions when they regularly work alongside their staff? Please keep it respectful. I want to hear from CNAs, nurses, managers, administrators, therapists, and anyone working in long-term care.

If the Director of nurses is working the floor and doing your job, who’s doing hers? You have no idea the high burn out in that position. It’s a lot. No they shouldn’t be working the floor. Somebody’s gotta drive the ship.

No. They have so many other things going on and that they have to answer for, that most people cannot even imagine. Tunnel vision. You do t know what somebody else does of you’ve never done it before.

Yes. And and every other is a night shift. If you can’t do the job you can’t lead the job.

I have worked staffing on the floor, the ED, surgery on days evenings nights, 8, 12, and 16 hour shifts. I am now a director and continue to work staffing to support my staff. So, I have paid my dues but won’t let my staff suffer. I am nothing without my great staff behind me. Just saying

As long as the floor nurses had to sub for the managers as well. Many managers have been floor nurses, but few floor nurses have ever been managers. The other side of the fence isn’t as green as everyone thinks it is. I would much rather do pt care than incident investigations, run reports, be on teams calls, education responsibilities, be on call 24/7, work from home after you’ve already put in 9 hours, etc. Its all perspective

No, if they are a good manager there’s no need. They are paid to manage, not do our work. If they can’t manage, they should not be in that position

I’m a DON. Yesterday at work I asked the medaid where was the CNA? She said she was a no show 😳. It was 11am and all the resident were being served lunch and all needs met. I felt terrible! I asked her “why didn’t you come get me to help you?” She said “because I got it, I would have asked if I needed you, but I don’t . You have your own work”. 🥺At shift change I was pulling trash. We are a team. 🤗

more than that. ant time the floor is short they should step up and help their staff. I had a DON who would work the floor as a CNA, CMA, LVN, or RN. Didn't matter, whatever we needed she had our backs. Any shift every time. Best leader every💜💜

Yes, they should all see what they are asking other people to do. And if they can’t do it themselves, they should not be asking someone else to do it.
