What’s even weirder is that if your client wasn’t happy she wouldn’t keep coming back. There is such a difference between educating your client and explaining why something doesn’t work vs shutting them down! Clients don’t stay if they don’t feel heard! 💚

Let’s say in the off chance she did want a pastel lavender or whatever and you didn’t tell her it would wash out or that the yellow and purple would neutralize each other. People would be mad you did it anyway, knowing it would fade out instantly and she’d be wasting her money. You just can’t win either way lmao the hair looked so freaking gorgeous!

I see these comments on hairtok ALL the time. people think giving your client any sort of feedback on their idea = not giving them what they want. it's nuts how little people understand how important it is to converse with your stylist and to confirm what you actually want your hair to look like!!!

I pay my stylist quite literally for her skills and knowledge she tells me what will or won’t work and what’s possible. I want bluntness why are we wasting time trying to fluff up an answer like just get to the point. How are people offended by this or the way you responded?

A good stylist always double checks what someone is asking for. I ask my stylist for an inch or 2 inches off & she always checks what that looks like for me as she's not measuring what she cuts... plus I'm an engineer so she knows my measurement for me is absolute. Be the same if I asked for a colour, she'd be asking me what it looks like to me & ask for pictures. We also talk about how going too short is hard work, or things wash out quicker etc. It's sign of a good stylist... and you are a good stylist🥰

my hairdresser is like you in, if I go in and ask for something she will straight up tell me if it's bad idea, I know if I went in and said I want like a pastel baby pink colour, she would so bad idea and tell me, if I have previous banding and how much she might have to bleach my hair and the damage it would cause, how quickly it might end up fading out, it happened not too long ago when we're discussing a new colour and I showed her one I liked and she it was nice, but that particular colour has a habit of fading fast and not the best so probably best to start with a different colour and potential look at working my way towards, I like her for her honesty

If I’m spending money on my hair, I WANT the honesty. I’m a lash tech and I am very informative and honest with my clients. If someone wants mega volume and their lashes can’t handle it, I won’t do it. I’ll create a look that gives them volume but doesn’t harm their lashes. The beauty industry needs to be informative.

People never understand the difference between making sure the client is educated on issues they might deal with and just straight up not listening and shutting down. Those two are not the same at all. It’s just trying to make sure you are both at the same level.
