Maybe Tesla will be forced to use LIDAR instead of just cameras.

We are Guinea pigs. When driverless vehicles replace teamsters we get UBI. It’s still early and the real win is trucking.

“A Waymo blocked an ambulance while a cop was responding to a mass shooting” is a particularly American sentence.

As someone who drives in San Francisco regularly, There’s a serious issue with how Waymo operates and distributes its fleet. They congregate and swarm ,without riders, in areas where they are unlikely to be required

Would be great if the government could also describe the existential risk that unregulated development of artificial intelligence poses as a quote "danger to the public". But nice to see them taking a strong stance on cars.

This is why sharing data and code is the only feasible way forward - even then not all unknowns will be known

Automation is fantastic until the “fringe” cases arise. Even if those fringe cases don’t happen often, they can be catastrophic for automated systems that aren’t prepared. There’s not enough flexibility.

ultimately I think this is an area where government standardization would totally benefit. making all of those robo taxis share emergency data sets with each other, so they could all learn would benefit the whole!
