Remember that boyfriend I had known for less than 2 months? Turns out, he saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself yet. 💜 He encouraged me to go back to school. So this high-school dropout enrolled in an alternative high school and earned her actual high-school diploma. And we just kept building from there. In 2001, we bought our first little starter house. It didn’t have much, but it had real walls—and a space that was perfect for a new-to-me vintage vanity. 💜 It was one of those mid-century ones with the high sides, the low center, and the big round mirror. Around that time, my grandma was living in a nursing home and she was miserable. She begged me to take her home. So I did. I took care of her, and when she was gone, I realized what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a nurse. Nursing school meant a long commute and a full-time college schedule. There really wasn’t time for me to work too, so Joe worked his butt off to put me through school. Funny thing is, neither of us knew yet that one day the roles would reverse—and I’d get the chance to do the same for him. In 2005, I graduated and suddenly I was making what felt like “adult money.” 😂 By then, Tarte had already found its way into my makeup bag. But now, buying makeup that had once felt like a luxury suddenly got a whole lot easier to justify. And wouldn’t you know it, 2005 was also the year Tarte launched Lights, Camera, Lashes. THAT one I remember. I bought it with Opening Act, the lash primer—they came together in a set with the travel sizes, and I loved them! Looking back, “Opening Act” feels pretty fitting. I had my diploma, my nursing degree, my first real career and a little “adult money.” 😂 It felt like my real opening act was just beginning. There is so much more to the story. #MakeupStoryTime #BeautyOver40 #MakeupOver40 #MatureMakeup #MakeupTransformation @tarte cosmetics
