what people dont get you can have hearing loss and hyperacusis hyperacusis just means, that you hear loud sounds louder and that your dynamic between barely audible to way too loud is very small

My mom had hyperacusis and it was really terrible for her. I will tell you you that it hasn’t bothered her in about the last decade though. I don’t know what combination of things helped truly I think it was hearing loss due to age. Now she has hearing aids that do some fancy stuff and she has almost no issues with it. Wishing you the best

tbf, If you had a disability, wouldnt it be cool to see it used in fiction in a way that makes it cool? I get wanting to be properly understood as well, but like, if youve had to suffer a disability for your entire life, and then saw a movie where a character with your disability does cool shit, wouldnt that maje you happier? Cause thats how it generally works for every other trait both negative and positive. If someone has blinde hair and hates it, if they see a cool character with blonde hair they will start liking their hair more. If someone lost an eye and feels embarrassed and uncomfortable about their eyepatch, but then sees a cool character with an eyepatch, it will make them enjoy it

I feel like you could do this premise right if the character is written well. Like imagine he cracks a safe but immediately after he needs his earmuffs. an alarm going off is not an option for him because it would completely stop him from moving with how strong the sound is.

As an audiologist, this was also super infuriating for me to watch. I’ve seen what hyperacusis can do to people and it’s debilitating. What also frustrated me is that they don’t even get the definition correct. Hyperacusis can also occur alongside hearing loss, it is not “super hearing”, it can cause everyday sounds to become uncomfortably intense or painful, appearing much louder than they actually are. I’m so sorry that you are going through this and that there is still no cure!
