Hydro :
My sister is 12 years older than me. The GameCube had just come out the year before, and I'd spent the entire year begging for one for Christmas. We grew up poor, so I never expected much for birthdays or Christmas, and I understood why. But that GameCube was the one thing I wanted more than anything. My sister had even caught me staring at it in the Christmas catalog.
Christmas morning came, and I opened two pairs of jeans, two shirts, a pack of socks, a pack of boxers, some candy, and a couple of Hot Wheels. I was grateful, but deep down I knew a GameCube just wasn't in the cards.
Then my sister, who had just gotten her first job at McDonald's about two months earlier, asked me to bring the laundry in from the dryer so Mom could fold it. I opened the dryer, and instead of clothes, there was a wrapped present.
I carried it into the living room, confused, and my sister smiled and said, "Looks like we forgot one."
I unwrapped it, and inside was a Mario Kart: Double Dash!! GameCube bundle with the game and two controllers.
I don't think I've ever been that excited in my life. My sister had secretly saved money from her very first job just to buy it for me. I cried then... and honestly, I still tear up thinking about it today. That's still one of the greatest Christmas gifts anyone has ever given me.
