@deltatrendtrading: What is gamma exposure? Explaining options Greeks Delta and Gamma, market maker hedging behavior, delta neutrality, dynamic hedging, and the proxies GEX services don’t tell you they use to compute the numbers you trust. #quant #quanttrading #quantfinance
I just sent out my first payout request for 3k with the help of QuantPad, you're really changing the whole retail trading game and I couldn't be more grateful.

Retail uses naive gex. The real sauce is with optionsdepth or vs3d by voldsignals former MM his YouTube videos are really interesting and informative

Of course there's assumptions in the model. All models are wrong, but some are useful. So are GEX models useful? The theory is sound, but I've never seen solid empirical evidence. One trick though is you can make two models with opposite assumptions, and it gives you a range. So you know the truth is somewhere between the two.

Correct me if I’m wrong, aggregate gamma doesn’t really matter. It’s strike by strike. Some strikes are much more heavily protected than others. You can calculate the GEX at each strike to identify where dealers will protect strongest and look for a reversal there to the next largest GEX strike. There’s a lot more to it but to put it simply

GEX is jus approximated off the options flow data, anyone that claims they can actually track market makers is either lying or has access to all market maker books which is highly improbable

Ive been using it. I've wondered if the levels that are plotted are just guesses. I figured it was largely a guess/ calculation off the oi snapshot

You can make the obvious assumption that most of 0DTE flow is bought to open, MM short, due to lottery ticket buying idiots that reset daily. This induces negative gamma regime across the board on both the put and call side for 0DTE. The actual data can be bought through CBOE open/close summary, however it does not show 100% of all orders, just CBOE. You can also use Lee-Ready classification for bid/ask differentiation and sum the counts.

Simple terms for beginners : In a positive gamma regime MM sell into Rips and buy into Dips

Yea it sucks people are getting ripped off trying to trade off assumptions. When in reality you need a license, good data vendor and probably spending thousands for that data vendor. Not something that’s $40/mo coded with Claude

50% of snp option volume is 0dte? That’s surprising. doesn’t mean open interest snapshot isn’t useful. Lots of ladders

a guy I know personally was about a year ago trading delta neutral positions with short puts and long stocks, the markets were pretty volatile and he made a great return.
We were talking about it and from what I remember it was a great period for this strategy.
With Trump the markets are still pretty volatile so I wanted to ask, is the opportunity still there assuming the markets will keep their high frequency of highs on the VIX, or did the market already adjusted to this volitale behaviour leveraging out most of the oprotinities.
Thanks

This is mostly correct but very misguiding in some ways… specifically about the accuracy of data. This reporting is available, no need to guess it.

I’m sure u could get an idea of net MM exposure by seeing how many calls & puts trade above/below midpoint or even better at bid or ask. And surely there’s a source that gives intraday open interest

Watched the whole video never having traded before 😭. Might sound dumb, but my only question is why would you ever want a net zero delta position? How do you make profit if you hedge away all your risk? I always thought you enter positions expecting (or hoping) for specific movements for profit and take on risk doing so. Aka take on positive delta when you’re bullish. If you eliminate that risk when counter positions, then don’t your positions lose and gain value simultaneously? Im assuming the volatility is the answer but i don’t know what that term means 😭
