see... as someone with bpd, I love this movie and hate it at the same time. this story came out of the timeframe where they legitimately did think you were making your own problems, there was nothing wrong with you, and the diagnosis was essentially crazy woman disease. but this movie still tricks people today because of the stigma around it. this mental illness has an incredibly high mortality rate, and unfortunately many don't get to make it to 22 because they take their own lives. this is genuinely a life shattering diagnosis, and you can go into remission of symptoms but you cannot fully cure it. it is caused from such intense childhood trauma your brain just collapses in on itself. you got so used to being lied to, your mind started lying to you constantly. you were so used to being neglected, that your mind told you you cant trust anyone ever. you were so used to chaos, you feel deeply uncomfortable when things get better. its a constant fucking cycle and without the much needed support system with immense amount of patience and understanding, we are bound to be stuck in it. 🥲
