I have a theory on this episode. The Tree symbolizes the universe, thriving on the chaos of the destructive and creative nature inside. As Morty goes through all these different lives he realized that choosing to be a vegetable/tree is the the most acceptable choice. Not competing with life, but just being a part of the race without the destructive nature that the Universe tree thrives on. We are told “nobody chooses to be a vegetable” in this episode. Maybe because most haven’t truly had enough life. Weither it may be peace, experiencing life, competition, or just seeing the sunset. But Morty found out life was never about that. It’s okay to just be alive. without any other expectation or explaination.

The season’s been really solid so far. The two episodes that I thought were just OK were the death Punch episode and the worms episode. Unfortunate because they both have pretty heavy Jerry sub plots, and Jerry has become one of my favorite Rick and Morty characters.
