that's wild, I've heard all the horror stories yet my ped was very through with my daughter, asked a ton of questions about her AND me. then my ob also checked me out to make sure I was physically AND mentally good before I got my IUD. I loved my ob team and my daughter's whole doctor office are full of angels. idk how I got so lucky 😭

They took my blood pressure. And then I was waiting and he didn’t say anything so I asked what about the gestational diabetes and he said oh that wasn’t mentioned in your discharge notes did you have it? I was like well yeah I had a positive GTT and finger pricking 4x a day for a month and he said oh but you weren’t on medication and I was like yes I was, and he looked at me blankly and said oh make a blood appointment in 4 weeks. That was it. Didn’t ask about my mood, bleeding anything. Felt really awkward.

they didnt even ask me any questions the appointment was purely for baby only! 2 minute check of his his heart rate and eyes and hips then sent us on our way. i was expecting them to check my c section scar and discuss contraception and PPD but nope appointment was for baby only apparently this was with my GP

I had a very similar experience with my GP for my 6 week check! When asked about post natal depression I did say I feel like I’m struggling and he just nodded his head and didn’t explore that any further 🥴 good thing I’m mental health first aid trained so know when and what to do if I’d gotten worse!

just putting this here cause I think it's good for mums to know what to expect at their appointments... the baby check is screening it was quick because there wasn't a problem identified. Which is great. the mental health questions are screening. if you say you are ok, that's great and nothing else to be done. if you say you are not ok and you are not offered help then that is wrong. you would have had more said at your appointment should you have been anaemic, had high BP, diabetic in pregnancy... to name a few. but you may not have had a pregnancy related complication that you needed the GP for post partum. also great news. physical recovery is covered by the midwife. you have at least 2 appointments post birth with them. it is their bread and butter. they should and probably do ask you about pain/discharge in that area way before 6 weeks (it should have definitely recovered by then, otherwise midwife would know about it).

This is why it’s funny that they suggest you wait to exercise until you’ve been cleared at your 8 week appointment… what like they know if I’m clear to exercise anyway? How would they know if they don’t check anything? 😅

I’m so sorry for how your appointment went, this feels to be a common experience which is such a shame. If you have the funds and ability I would recommend paying for a ‘mummy MOT’ they do a much more detailed check of everything x

I did but I am a dr so I went in with an itemised list of what I wanted to discuss! Mine was with a GP too, it sounds like yours wasn’t? As a gp in training - is there anything in particular you’d like to discuss?

I had to go to my daughters first dentist apt the other day, they didn’t even look in her mouth. We stood across the room and she said “do you brush her teeth” I said I try to. And that was it. Such a waste of time like I wouldn’t have minded as they said it’s to get them used to going, but she’d already been with me to 3 of my own appointments since she was born 😅

Was booked in at 9 weeks.. That's been cancelled & rearranged for when bubs is 13 weeks, said this isn't acceptable.. So now having our check at 11 weeks. Actually a joke. 😐
