In part one I said fatty liver is usually your metabolism flagging something. This one is about what it is actually flagging. The thing sitting underneath most fatty livers is insulin resistance. Insulin is what tells your cells to pull sugar out of your blood and use it for energy. When you become resistant, the cells stop responding to it properly, so your pancreas just makes more and more to force the same job through. Now you are walking around with high insulin most of the day and you have no idea. And high insulin has one main instruction for your body. Store fat. Hold onto what is already there and do not let it go. Especially around your middle. That belly fat is a different animal from the soft fat you can pinch on your arm. It sits deep around your organs and it is not just sitting there quietly. It drains almost straight into your liver and keeps sending out signals that make the insulin problem worse. So the belly and the liver start feeding each other. The liver fat makes the insulin resistance worse, that pushes even more fat to settle around your organs, and all of it drains back into the liver again. Round and round until something interrupts it. This is why one fatty liver scan is never really just about your liver. That same high insulin is nudging your blood pressure up at every reading. It turns up in your labs as high triglycerides and low good cholesterol. Give it a few years and the prediabetes quietly becomes diabetes. And a lot of the heart trouble that shows up later in life actually starts here, long before anyone feels a single thing. So when I call fatty liver serious, I am not talking about your liver failing next week. It is more that the fatty liver is often the first thing you can actually see from a much bigger process that has been running in the background for years. Insulin resistance does not announce itself. The liver is just where it tends to surface first. Part two is this. Why fatty liver matters far past your liver, and how the belly fat and the insulin sit right in the centre of it. Watch it to the end. That waist you have been ignoring might be telling you about your blood sugar long before any test picks it up
