@seadiaries.blue: ❗️Content Warning ❗️ 4 entangled whales in the past week. 1 freed. 2 still waiting to be helped. And this one already gone. How many more whales do we need to watch die along the Western Australian coast each season because of cray pot lines and fishing gear before something changes? If you’ve spent time on the water here, you’ll know that even skippering a boat can be stressful, with thousands of long lines and floats marking where cray traps sit. Passing marine life and vessels get snared constantly. Having documented this heartbreaking situation more than once now, it weighs heavily. And while it’s some comfort knowing the sharks and reef benefit from the nutrients when a whale passes, this is happening far too often. And these are only the ones we see. If you’re boating, fishing, diving, flying, walking the coastline or simply whale watching over the coming weeks, please keep an eye out for whales carrying rope, floats or buoys, anything tangled around them, or showing abnormal behaviour. If you see one: ∙ Keep a safe distance, do not enter the water ∙ Film or photograph it ∙ Record your GPS location ∙ Note the whale’s direction of travel ∙ Report it immediately DBCA / Wildcare (on-water entanglement kit): (08) 9474 9055 Balu Blue Foundation Wildlife Rescue Hotline (call, SMS or WhatsApp, 24/7): 0457 510 820 Please don’t assume someone else has already called. One phone call. One GPS location. One photo. Could give that whale another chance. Please share information this to your stories and send it to anyone heading out on the water. The more eyes watching, the more lives we can save. #ningaloo #whale #bekindtoallkinds #conservation #humpback

I always find these whale deaths interesting because, even though they're dead, they provide food for generations of living creatures. Whalefall's are always something unique.
