@itsnicethat: Can Artist Corporations revolutionise creative business? What if the corporation wasn't just something artists worked for, but something they could work with - or even become? In this week’s POV, artist, designer and cultural commentator @Kathy ~𖦹꩜ discusses A-Corps. Promising to prioritise IP protection and creative mission over corporate profit they sound like a great deal – but they’re not a quick fix for a creative industry in turmoil. To read Kathy Pham’s full piece you can head on over to the link in our bio. #ACorp #CreativeIndustry #Artist #Designer #CreativeNews

Based on this, A-Corps are def a plus. As an artist, I WANT my abilities to have the same protections that big businesses have. Artists are walking concept factories. I want business protection.

We definitely need more protections legally for artists. I don’t want artists and craftspeople to have to wait for a perfect society to be able to have stability

I need to look into this more... my initial thought is, why don't they just extend these rights to sole proprietors instead of creating a whole new structure? Creative endeavors aren't just paint on paper. There's inherent creativity with (most) small businesses.

mixed feelings is right. this will likely be beneficial to the artists who are able/willing to navigate this new system.

Intellectual property is automatically protected, you don’t need to to pay the government to own the rights to your own work lmao

as a creative myself I feel like this is something that could be refined a little more and expanded upon and I would like to see what other major states such as California Texas Florida and New York Oregon State and Washington State who is mostly states that have like a lot of artists interests as well as Hawaii I think they should all come together with Colorado and kind of like figure out how to expand on this foundation

As an animator, I see the framework and the benefit, but it is still far from how my ideal for how I would want to run a studio. This feel close to an artists co-op, but not in full as to avoid the scary ideology of, y’know, workers owning the means of production

Regarding to steps in the right direction, I like to say: We had to wait until after 9pm to text or call for free, before we could have unlimited minutes and data . 😆

The inability to transfer IP rights kinda defeats the purpose imho. Licensing only goes so far, WFH / speculative work tend to be mutually exclusive with one another.

Don’t you own the intellectual property if you have a normal LLC though?

Can't wait for California to start doing this...so they can charge me an $800 a year tax regardless if I make any money or not.
