It is bigger than just dog training. It will bleed over to parenting and raising kids. He doesn’t respect you. Leave. -from someone who experienced this dynamic and is divorcing after wasting 17 years.

He may be a good person, but he’s not her person. If he’s dismissive of her advice when it comes to dog training, imagine how he’d be if they have kids.

Men don’t see women as equal human beings. They see themselves as superior. They don’t think WE could know something that they do not know. I dated a guy who would disagree with me OFF THE BAT and it pissed me off. If I said “wow look at the gorgeous pink sunset!” he would say “it’s not pink, it’s orange”. I will never be with a man like this ever again

My two favorite content creators are discussing decentering. I am also in the midst of this practice.

This is my ex-husband. I would say something, and he would dismiss it, and then his mother would say the same thing and think it was a great idea. You are not alone.

I'm a board certified behavior analyst and my husband convinced himself he was ADHD. I told him he does not meet the criteria to be diagnosed as ADHD. He paid someone else and got tested to be told he is not ADHD.

Don’t let this become a divorce. You already admitted that you are aware he doesn’t respect your input. Leave him now.

Gottman relationship theory… not being able to have influence on your partner is a big deal. Defensiveness is also a red flag and makes you emotionally unsafe to be able to have conflict.

I have always said for my husband to listen to anything a man has to tell him. I can say the exact same thing, and he completely dismisses me. A man tells him the same thing, and it is GOLD.

If this dynamic is continuing in your relationship and it's bothering you, it being "normal" doesn't make it right. Address it, if not solved, ask yourself if this is a deal breaker for you or you can live in other people's shadow.

OMG THIS! I would suggest places or things I think my husband would like, I get dismissed. A friend or anyone else says it & he's all in! I say yea I suggested that a month ago! I'm glad it's not just me! 🙂

My ex fiancé didn’t train his German Shepherd. It made training my chocolate lab impossible because she was learning bad habits and behaviors from his dog. THEN, he would undermine EVERYTHING I was trying to teach my dog, too. It hit me hard one day that this is how it would always be with dogs, and worse if we were to have kids. I left a few months later. So happy I did. My husband doesn’t undermine me with the dogs and helps me correct the bad habits in my chocolate lab from the previous relationship.

When someone doesn’t appreciate your efforts, do less! It applies to all relationships: partners, children, parents, coworkers, friends, and it’s helped me a lot. Going to look into the de-centering now, TY!

What I have found as a wife a daughter a mother of adult children. A sister, and a friend. Is that no one appreciates the advice that they did not seek out. It is hard when you are a genuine helpful person. But I no longer give advice at all to anyone. If I am asked, I will say let me think about that and get back to you, then I do not give my advice before a 24 hour period is up. What this has done for me? It has allowed me to use my brain to think about myself, my wants and my needs. When others talk to me I listen but not to resolve. If they want advice I simply ask them specifically what they are needing advice on. Most of the time no one asks for my advice and I can stay the center of my universe. I find it has become very peaceful and relaxing.
