This isn’t me saying every white person is mediocre. I know plenty of hardworking people who have earned everything they have. I’m talking about a system that often rewarded proximity to whiteness before merit, and what happens when that system starts losing its grip. The problem isn’t that Kenzie isn’t beautiful. The problem is that some people still expect blonde hair and blue eyes to automatically win the competition.
