What happens when you go to treat chronic insomnia is that you have to treat it chronically as stall used to contend before his balls shrunk. If you treat high blood pressure with a medicine and then stop it and the blood pressure goes up. We don’t say that you’re addicted to the blood pressure medicine, we say you have hypertension. That should be the same approach to treating insomnia. If you treat insomnia, long enough with a Z drug to develop a theoretical dependence, when you stop that drug the first night you sleep 2/3 of your sleep baseline and the next night you return to baseline. That is not dependence.

I am prescribed 150 mg of trazodone at night for sleep. I hate the way it makes my body and heart feel. My pulse raises. I was just diagnosed with “restless leg syndrome“. Could that actually not be restless leg syndrome and be akathasia?

It worked for me, however it worked too well. I could sleep over 12 hrs and still be ready to go back to bed for another 4 hrs. Just felt tired all time. The withdrawals were awful when I got off them

1/2000 males develop priapism, requiring ER intervention and 10-15% of those won’t have normal erections ever again. The level of daytime sedation is prohibitive if you give enough at bedtime to facilitate sleep on.set. The American Academy of sleep medicine does not recommend trazodone for insomnia. I will follow up with a note on the drugs because the astronauts take zolpidem.
