Loving someone who doesn't love you back is one of the most devastating experiences a human being can endure. It's like holding the most beautiful rose in the garden: its beauty is so intense you don't want to let go, but the tighter you hold it, the deeper its thorns pierce your skin. And yet, you still hold it. There's something profoundly childlike in that pain. Your heart feels like that of a small child who doesn't yet understand the world: a child looking at their parents, wondering why they don't love them the same way. No logic can soothe that wound, because love doesn't obey reason. In that state, a dark thought is also born: the impossible wish that that person had never existed. Not out of hatred, but out of weariness. Because if they had never appeared in your life, neither would the void left by their indifference. But even that wish is contradictory, because at the same time you know that having known that beauty, even though it hurt, changed something within you. That's where the great paradox of falling in love comes in: it can be both the best and the worst thing that can happen to a human being.
