Share this side of Athens with someone 🇬🇷🌞✨ Locations: 📍 Anafiotikia 📍 Kolonaki 📍 Monastiraki 📍 Plaka 📍 Athens National Garden 📍 Ano Petralona Athens might not be perfect, chaotic at times and a little rough around the edges, but somehow that’s exactly what makes it beautiful. I’ve always seen beyond the graffiti and grit that just about every global hub city has. Athens is a city that keeps reinventing itself, weathering centuries of change and challenges, yet always finding a way to come alive again. That energy is exciting, so full of life, with restaurant seating spilling out into the streets, the best rooftop bars, rich ancient history, incredible weather, warm hospitality and some of the best food you’ll find in the whole of Greece. A lot of people complain about the “ugly architecture and concrete.” Sure, the post war apartment buildings are densely packed in, but in contrast with the ancient ruins, neoclassical buildings, street art, balconies spilling with flowering plants, its creates a city that feels layered and lived-in rather than polished. What I also notice whenever I’m there is how green it is, with beautiful trees lining a majority of the streets. Some of my favourites are the tall Plane trees which create a canopy of shade from the intense heat of the sun. A lot of the streets even have nerantzies (νεραντζιές / bitter orange trees) which create a warm, village type atmosphere in the middle of the city. They even give off an orange-blossom fragrance in the spring. Athens has truly become one of my favourite cities in the world. Interested in seeing more? Watch my new Athens video on YouTube.
