First of all, congratulations on the review! I found it funny that you said you thought the album was disappointing, but you ended up giving it a 6.9. I’ve always interpreted scores above 6 on Pitchfork as an indication of a good album. Am I doing something wrong, or is that really how it works 😂😂?

I would say there are more Ghanaian highlife inspirations. He mentioned he was inspired from a soundtrack he heard on a few films on Ghanaian highlife. Other than that love your take on this and agree!

Super interesting take! To me it was disappointing because he repurposed a lot of his old songs so the album didn’t feel new. Who do you think does have that ferocity in the current Brazilian music scene? I think of artists like ana frango elétrico…

Ya, we gotta talk about musical tropes, crutches, and the frequency with which they keep popping up. If I have to hear more drum breaks, Fixed guitar 7th 9th chord progressions, Or rehashed 80’s aesthetics, I might loose my shit.

Sounds like the post-dubstep scene, eg Mount Kimbie James Blake influenced artists like Flume or XXYYXX. There was many small artists that used a lot of more “organic” sounds in the post dubstep vibe and they never really made it bc it just went down a bit too easily
